ACT Fire & Rescue are currently on scene at the Calvary John James Hospital complex, investigating reports of a chemical spill in a detached operating theatre building.
The building which is closed to the public after normal business hours, and does not house hospital patients, is currently being investigated by ACT Fire & Rescue's Hazardous Materials Response team, assisted by the HAZMAT support unit, two fire pumpers and one command vehicle.
The suspected chemical spill has been confined to a single area of the building and firefighters are working to identify the nature of the chemical. Current investigations have confirmed there is no threat or danger to residents or staff at the Calvary John James Hospital or nearby businesses.
Firefighters were alerted to the incident via Emergency Triple Zero (000) when staff members discovered the spill.
The ACT Ambulance Service is also attending the scene as a precaution should medical support be needed.
