Indigenous Fire and Rescue Employment Strategy

Indigenous Fire and Rescue Employment Strategy

In partnership with NSW Fire & Rescue, the Indigenous Fire and Rescue Employment Strategy (IFARES) offers a unique opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to gain recognised qualifications relating to firefighting and fitness.

IFARES is a six-month program designed to increase the skills and knowledge of intelligent, fit, health and community-minded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women interested in becoming firefighters.

Candidates will complete a Certificate IV in Fitness while engaging in simulated firefighter training activities. At the end of the program, graduates will have the option to progress through the ACT Fire & Rescue recruitment process to gain permanent employment as a firefighter.
