Storm and Flood Assistance
More ACT firefighters will be sent south this afternoon to help extinguish a coal mine fire.
A formal request has been made by Victoria's fire services for additional resources from ACT Fire & Rescue (ACTF&R).
It follows an initial request made at the weekend and brings ACT resources deployed to 14 staff and four vehicles. The coal seam fire has been burning in the Latrobe Valley in the state's east for a few weeks.
An additional ACTF&R Compressed Air Foam (CAFS) tanker will be deployed to Morwell and a superintendent will head to the state control centre in Melbourne.
As support to Victoria may be on-going for some time, crews will be returned and replaced on a rotational basis.
