Storm and Flood Assistance
A series of hazard burns will be conducted in the ACT tomorrow, Tuesday, April 29, weather permitting.
The ACT Territory and Municipal Services Directorate (TAMS) has advised burns are planned for six locations on the south bank of the Molonglo River, upstream of Coppins Crossing. These burns should be completed by the end of the day.
Burns will be conducted to clear piles of wood collected from 64 hectares of Kowen Forest and Uriarra Forest.
The hazard reduction burns will be conducted at:
*Molonglo River
*Kowen Forest
*Uriarra Village
*East/West Road
It is normal for stumps and heavy logs to continue to smoke. Staff will continue to monitor the burn until no smokes are visible for 24 hours.
Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
