The ACT Rural Fire Service is conducting two burns east of Uriarra Crossing today.
Six units from Rivers and Molonglo are assisting a landholder burn 15 hectares at a property called Huntly, which is adjacent to the Molonglo River.
The second burn, south of the Uriarra East Picnic area, is approximately four hectares and is being conducted for land management and weed purposes.
There are 17 units on scene.
Both burns will produce large quantities of smoke, but it unlikely to be a hazard to motorists.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
