The hazard burn at Pine Island Reserve will continue tomorrow, Saturday,30 August 2014, weather permitting.
The Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) Directorate has advised the 24.1 hectare burn will be one of two being conducted by crews.
A 3.5 hectare burn will also be undertaken west of the Majura Parkway and east of Mount Majura VIneyard. The objective is to reduce fuel loads from fallen pines.
Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
