Update - Kitchen fire at Belconnen apartment building

The fire was sparked while the residents were cooking food stuff on the stove.

Firefighters would like to remind the community "Don't stop looking while you're cooking".

Due to the sprinkler system, there was significant water damage to the three bedroom unit.

There was also been minor flood damage across five nearby units.

Following atmospheric testing, the 10 residents who were evacuated have been allowed back into the building.

ACT Fire & Rescue will shortly hand the scene to the apartment's operators.
