The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development, weather permitting, will continue prescribed burning activities tomorrow and Friday at various locations in Canberra.
An 11.57 hectare burn at Aranda Bushland Nature Reserve, which commenced today, will continue tomorrow.
Two additional burns will also commence tomorrow to enhance grassland areas by removing thatch grass. These include:
- a 22 hectare burn at Jerrabomberra Grasslands Nature Reserve, off Monaro Highway (Thursday)
- a 11.56 hectare at Kama Nature Reserve (south), off William Hovell Drive, Molonglo (Thursday)
Pending suitable weather, fuel and soil moisture conditions, a fourth burn is scheduled to commence on Friday 21 April 2017 at Crace Grasslands Nature Reserve. This 12.2 hectare burn also aims to enhance grasslands by removing thatch grass.
Temporary smoke cover is expected across Canberra. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke.
Staff will continue to monitor the burn sites until smoke has not been visible for 24 hours.
