The ACT Parks and Conservation Service wishes to advise that, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions, a prescribed burn will take place at Black Mountain Nature Reserve on Thursday 26 April 2018.
The 17.5 hectare burn is planned for the eastern side of Black Mountain Nature Reserve bounded between Barry Drive and Frith Road.
Another 16 hectare burn to the south of Belconnen Way will be implemented on Friday and/or Saturday depending on weather conditions.
The burns are being conducted to reduce fire hazard as well as provide protection to nearby housing and the Australian Botanic Gardens.
A map showing the location of the burn sites is available at the Upcoming Prescribed Burns Page.
People with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma, in particular, should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
