AFAC has released the Seasonal Outlook for Autumn 2023, indicating normal fire potential for grasslands, and below normal fire potential in forested areas of the ACT.
Increased rainfall throughout Spring and Summer means fuel moisture levels have been higher than usual, and vegetation is only now just beginning to dry out.
With conditions suitable for burning, land managers from the ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Parks and Conservation Service have conducted several prescribed burns across the ACT in recent weeks. This activity is expected to continue into Autumn to continually manage fuel loads across Canberra.
