Prescribed burns are being conducted today and tomorrow in the ACT.
A seven hectare burn at the Gossan Hill Nature Reserve began yesterday and is expected to be completed today.
Two other burns will start today – a one hectare burn between Araba Street and Gungahlin Drive in Aranda and a 13 hectare ecological burn at West Jerrabomberra Nature Reserve near the Monaro Highway in Hume.
Tomorrow another one hectare ecological burn will be conducted at East Jerrabomberra Nature Reserve near Lanyon Drive in Hume.
These burns are being conducted by ACT Parks and Conservation.
Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke.
People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
