Recently ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) welcomed a motivated group of more than 30 field recruits, the first volunteers to join the service this year.
From now until late September, they will learn a suite of skills relating to storm and water damage to prepare them for the upcoming storm and bushfire seasons.
A/g Chief Officer ACTSES Matt Shonk said that he is very excited to have the new recruits join the Agency to help keep the Canberra community safe and prepared.
“This year’s group is very diverse and it’s great to see members of the community from 18 to 70 years of age with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds join the service,” Matt said.
“They are an incredibly determined group of people and through all their training I know they are going to be a great asset, particularly during the upcoming storm season.”
An additional 13 recruits will also join the service in August, with another 28 set to complete a short field course in October.
