The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) advises the heavy rain forecast overnight may impact on some residents and businesses across the ACT.
It is possible that Oaks Estate, Pialligo and the Lower Molonglo areas of the ACT may be subject to significant flooding if the forecast weather eventuates.
People in these areas should make sure they keep aware of their surroundings in case of flooding. You should monitor ACT local media, the ESA website (esa.act.gov.au) and the ESA Twitter and Facebook accounts for alerts and updates.
If an evacuation is required advice will be provided to affected residents through these channels and via the EMERGENCY ALERT telephone warnings system, if appropriate.
Residents elsewhere in Territory can also expect localised flash flooding throughout the ACT which means elevated local creeks and drains and across roads and footpaths. They may also experience roof damage from water inundation. The ACTSES strongly advise people to stay away from storm water drains or large bodies of water.
The ESA is fully activated and ready to respond to the impact of the rain as required through the ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) with support from ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service.
Motorists are urged to drive to the conditions including slowing down and leaving a greater distance between you and the car in front. Under no circumstances attempt to drive through large bodies of water.
The Bureau of Meteorology web site (www.bom.gov.au/act) publishes all flood warnings, rainfall and river level information.
Residents who require assistance can call the ACTSES on 132 500.
