The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will conduct two hazard reduction burns tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 28 November, 2012, weather permitting, at Macgregor and Gungahlin.
The ACTRFS Molonglo Brigade will conduct a hazard reduction burn at the Belconnen Pony Club, Parkwood Road, Macgregor, from 5pm to 11pm.
Two heavy tankers, two medium tankers, one command vehicle and 15 personnel will conduct the burn of four medium sized piles.
The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the Macgregor burn is I10.
Also tomorrow, Wednesday 28 November, 2012, the ACTRFS Gungahlin Brigade will conduct a hazard reduction burn from 6pm till 12am, at the Gungahlin Eucalypt Plantation, north of Horse Park Drive and the proposed suburb of Jacka.
One heavy tanker, two medium tankers, one Compressed Air Foam System unit, one command vehicle and 20 personnel will conduct the burn of approximately five hectares in size.
The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the Gungahlin burn is L9.
The purpose of both burns is to remove a fuel hazard.
Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
