ADVICE - Update seven - Bushfire at Mt Clear

The ACT Rural Fire Service is working to extinguish a bushfire burning at Mt Clear near the ACT/NSW border.

The Bushfire Alert and Warning Level for this fire has been set at ADVICE. This means members of the public should seek out and monitor information about the fire.

Firefighters reported little fire activity overnight and continued to enforce containment lines. The fire is approximately 47 hecatres and is being controlled.

The eastern edge of the fire is 14 kilometres from the Monaro Highway. There will be some smoke in the area but visibility on the highway will not be affected.

Today, a dozer will construct a line from the southern edge of the fire to the northern edge to allow for water to be conveyed to crews for use on the fire ground. Crews will continue to be supported by water bombing aircraft.

Thirty-three firefighters are enforcing containment lines to limit the spread of the fire in anticipation of unfavourable weather conditions forecast for tomorrow, Sunday. It is hoped limited fire activity today may reduce the potential for this fire to move across the ACT border into areas of NSW. The ACT Rural Fire Service is working directly with the NSW Rural Fire Service and has put appropriate arrangements in place should this fire break containment lines.

There have been numerous calls to Emergency Triple Zero (000) this morning. Members of the public are reminded to use this service for the reporting of new fires.

The ESA advises you to monitor the situation for any changes through local ACT media outlets, the ESA website esa.act.gov.au, ESA Twitter account @ACT_ESA, ESA Facebook account @ACT Emergency Services Agency, the Fires Near Me mobile device App or by calling Access Canberra on 13 22 81.

This advice should be read in conjunction with current weather conditions. Current weather observations can be found on the Bureau of Meteorology website http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/act/observations/canberra.shtml
