ACT Fire and Rescue have responded to a kitchenette fire at Deakin Offices on Kent Street.
Recruit Firefighter Julia Chadburn was completing her first day of on-station training when an automatic fire alarm alerted Phillip Fire Station to the emergency.
"I was excited and a bit nervous, my training kicked in and I followed the lead of the crew," Ms Chadburn said.
Approximately 15 people were evacuated from the office building. The kitchen area sustained major smoke damage.
An unattended burning stove is believed to have started the fire.
