ACT Fire & Rescue responded to an automatic fire alarm that was activated in the East Hotel on Giles Street in Griffith at approximately 12:10pm.
Firefighters arrived to find one level of the building smoke logged and evacuated approximately 20 occupants from the affected floor.
The source of the smoke was quickly determined to be a burnt cooking appliance, with no sign of fire.
Firefighters have removed the appliance from the building and are conducting atmospheric monitoring and air ventilation.
Occupants will be allowed to re-enter the affected floor once the area is deemed safe.
