ACT Emergency Services Agency advises that the haze seen across Canberra is dust caused by wind, not smoke.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting dry conditions and strong winds, with the potential for raised dust to reduce air quality throughout the afternoon and evening.
ACT Health reports the air quality is expected to return to good levels by early Saturday morning.
