The smoke plume that is visible across Canberra is from the Orroral Valley Fire, burning in the remote area of Namadgi National Park.
Smoke is predicted to hit the urban area of Canberra at approximately 8pm this evening. Canberrans are reminded to please call Triple Zero (000) if you see an unattended fire (notably a visible flame or distinct column of smoke), not just because you see or smell smoke.
Clear details of the location of the fire will also help us attend to it quickly.
ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Parks and Conservation Service firefighters are on scene working to contain the fire.
Helicopters are undertaking water-bombing operations and aerial surveillance.
