MAPS Group Founders Awarded Life Membership

The Mapping and Planning Support (MAPS) group consists of geospatial professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to support the management of emergency incidents.

The group was founded back in 2005 after a need was identified during the 2003 Canberra bushfires.
Recently, two founding members Ian Batley and Frank Blanchfield were awarded life-membership. Ian and Frank both assisted with the establishment of the MAPS group and remain active today. Now that’s dedication!

A/g EBM Risk & Planning Cameron Beresford expressed his gratitude for the work the volunteers do.

“Our MAPS volunteers bring an extraordinary wealth of professional skills from their everyday careers as Spatial Professionals to the Agency.  The mapping products they produce during an incident not only support all decisions within our Incident Management Team but also help inform our communities of the location of an emergency, which very much underpins our public messaging. We are very grateful for their contributions.”

Thank you to all our MAPS volunteers for the important capability you bring to our Agency.
