ORRORAL VALLEY FIRE - ADVICE - 9AM 16.02.2020

The Orroral Valley Fire has been declared as ‘out’. This means there is no fire in the landscape.

Yesterday, the Special Intelligence Gathering (SIG) helicopter, Firebird100, conducted aerial surveillance of the fire ground and found no active fire.

Smoke has not been sighted from the area in more than 72 hours.

After what has been almost 40 days of constant operations for the ACT Emergency Services Agency, this is fantastic news.

Due to significant rainfall across the fireground, the status of the Orroral Valley Fire has changed to Patrol.

The fire is at a stage where firefighting resources are only required for patrol purposes and major re-ignition is unlikely.

The Orroral Valley Fire is at an ADVICE level bushfire warning.

Recent rainfall has not extinguished the fire, although milder temperatures and continued rain is greatly assisting fire suppression efforts.

The fire is now contained, meaning the whole fire perimeter is behind identifiable control lines.

An update will be provided every 24 hours, or if the situation changes.

Damage assessment teams have completed work on Corin Road following the impact of the Orroral Valley Fire in the area, and it is now safe for travel. The ACT Emergency Services Commissioner has approved its reopening to the public this afternoon.
