Severe Weather Warning - ACT

Time to begin getting ready for what could be a wet couple of days around the ACT.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for parts of the ACT for heavy rain and possibly damaging winds. Conditions are expected to deteriorate in the ACT from tomorrow and continue through Saturday. For full details of the warning, click here Australian Capital Territory Warnings Summary (bom.gov.au)

The advice for the ACT is part of a broader BOM warning covering a large area of NSW. Because of the size of the system the warning and forecasts are likely to change regularly over the next couple of days, so we strongly recommend keeping a watch for updates or changes here http://www.bom.gov.au/act/.

Now is the time to get ready, the ACT State Emergency Service recommends you:

  • Clean your gutters of debris;
  • Check that street drains near your home are clear – call TCCS if they are blocked;
  • Trim overhanging trees and branches;
  • Do a general clean-up around the home and backyard;
  • Take care while driving, and never ride, walk or drive through a flash flood.

If you need support during storms and floods call the ACT State Emergency Service on 132 500.

In a life-threatening emergency call Triple-Zero (000).
